I’m looking to pivot into software development. Currently a UI/UX artist in game development and would like to make the plunge. I was recommended looking into fintech as an industry due the the aforementioned interest in pivoting to software dev and being interested in investing. I’m hoping to get some insight from software developers in fintech what they think of their role and the industry on a few questions i have:
How competitive is the industry? Is it realistic to aspire to get a job as a software dev directly in fintech straight out of a bootcamp program or should I expect to get experience elsewhere first?
What’s the work/life balance? Currently as a game dev (mobile developer) we have a really good work/life balance and great perks. I’m wondering how crunchy the space can be.
What are some areas of focus that you would recommend? I realize there’s an entire development stack that I could try to learn. Lots of online programs teach crypto and machine learning. Are the more lucrative positions back-end or front-end.
I really appreciate anyone taking the time to give their feedback, opinions, or dropping resources. If there are Discord or Slack communities that you could recommend I’d appreciate the connections. Thanks!
